THR also reports that even if Cruise decides not to do the film, his interest alone is fast tracking the project, despite complicated rights issues that must be sorted out. Sleeper is a spin-off book from Wildstorm's WildC.A.T.s and features characters from another spin-off book, Gen 13. Both books had been set up at different places around town and some of those deals were made before DC bought the imprint in 1999.
Although I have never read an issue of Sleeper, Brubaker is an amazing writer and hopefully a lot more of his stuff will be tapped by hollywood, including his awesome run on Captain America for the upcoming Cap film. So here is the plot thanks to the great Wikipedia:
Holden Carver, a.k.a. The Conductor, is placed undercover in Tao's criminal organization by John Lynch, the director of Internal Operations after being fused with an alien artifact that makes him impervious to pain, gives him a powerful healing factor, and allows him to store pain he receives and pass it on to others through skin contact.
So any one fans of the Sleeper comic? Do you think Cruise and Raimi can pull it off?
