Mickey Rourke Not Returning For Sin City 2!

Sin City was greatness. A key element to that was Frank Miller's character Marv and the actor who embodied him, Mickey Rourke. Recent news of the sequel going into production next year is exciting but it looks like it could be without Mr. Rourke!


"No, I'm not interested in that right now. That's not a reality right now. It's pissing in the wind," Rourke told Coming Soon. "There's different factions going different directions there. I don't know. That's three hours of make up and I'm claustrophobic, so I'm going to have to work something out."

It does sound as though he is tired of sitting around waiting, obviously knowing more about the project than we do. And I don't blame him, after his amazing performance in The Wrestler and currently working on the upcoming remake of 13 Tzameti, it looks as though he is gearing towards a different type of film. But it sure would be great to have one more round with Marv, hell you never know.

Producer Brad Fuller of Platinum Dunes tells STYD, who also provided the awesome pic, "sack head Jason" dipped in an out of various script drafts. "But it was [Damian] Shannon and [Mark] Swift who came up with giving the film that seminal moment where you go from the baghead to the hockey mask," he says. "That was something that we all wanted to do in the movie. If we're going to be true to what we're doing here, and tell - obviously not a remake of the first movie and it's not a sequel - key moments from all of the movies, we really wanted to integrate it in our own way." FX artists Scott Stoddard is responsible for designing the streamlined appearance you see. "He is so good that what he gives us is what we go with, that was the case here. He just hit a home run with it and we just loved the design."

Thanks to STYD, we have a first look at the DVD artwork for the upcoming deluxe editions of Friday the 13th, Friday the 13th Part 2 and Friday the 13th Part 3. I have to admit the artwork isn't anything we haven't seen before but I guess it keeps it close to the original VHS covers we remember. It has also been confirmed that Friday the 13th Part 3 will be released in 3D! Yeah! All three plus the Friday the 13th Blu-Ray are set for release on February 3rd, 2009.

“The title of the new comic prequel series is Star Trek: Countdown. It is being written byMike Johnson and Tim Jones based on a story by Star Trek director JJ Abrams and writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. The series will run four issues, with the first coming out in January 2009 and one more issue in each of the next three months (with the final issue and a trade paperback collection in April). The Trek team are all fans of comics and have done many comic tie-ins to previous projects. This project is something they are paying close attention to, right down to picking the writers. Both Johnson and Jones have worked with Orci and Kurtzman in the past and Johnson has also been writing Superman/Batman comics for DC. The artwork is being done by Italian artist David Messina who has been working for IDW on a number of Trek comics, including the latest “Mirror Images” series, where his work has garnered rave reviews.”

“It will cover ‘the origin of Nero, the mysterious Romulan who will ultimately threaten the survival of the entire universe.’ In a way, this comic book prequel evidences why the new Star Trek team has been resistant to labeling their film as a straight up prequel. As revealed recently, the plot of the film involves Nero traveling back in time to the era before the Original Series. This Comic Book prequel, which is said to ‘take us right up to the movie,’ is primarily set in the time before Nero goes back in time, specifically the Next Generation era after Star Trek Nemesis. The main characters for the prequel will not be the young TOS crew but Nero and the elder Spock (and possibly familiar characters from the TNG era).

Roberto Orci also said: ["Star Trek: Countdown"] is about how you connect the Next Generation era to our continuity, inspired by when we last saw Mr. Spock in "Unification"

Young X-Men, Deadpool And a Daredevil Reboot?

20th Century Fox are desperate. They have had a disappointing summer with films like Meet Dave, The Rocker, Babylon AD and The X-Files: I Want To Believe all bombing at the box office. So now they are seeing what they can milk out of existing comic book franchises. Are films like Young X-Men, Deadpool and a Daredevil reboot the answer. Survey says...

In a recent Variety article about Fox's plans for the next few years, it was revealed that X-Men spinoffs, including a young-X-Men project as well as a Deadpool film (the character will appear in X-Men Origins: Wolverine played by Ryan Reynolds) were on the table. Also the studio is considering "reviving" the Daredevil property.

Now, I'm not sure if "reviving" means rebooting it Hulk style or making a sequel but I actually really liked Daredevil and I think a reboot would be pointless. As for a Deadpool film, most knew that would be on the cards once it was announced Ryan Reynolds would be playing him and it could be kind of cool depending on how they do the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. A young-X-Men film, could be good and will now doubt include X-23 with a cameo from Wolverine (because we have to have Wolverine in everything).

Sylvester Stallone Ready For Rambo 6!!!

Rambo was fucking awesome, full stop. When Sylvester Stallone announced he will be cooking up a 'Rambo 5' I was a little worried because Rambo was a hell of a way to end a franchise and a fifth one could mess all that up. Well now Sylvester Stallone is getting ready to write 'Rambo 6'! Hell Sly, if they are anything like the fourth film give me ten more!

Moviehole got word that there will be not one, but two more Rambo films! The fifth film, which has already been written by Stallone, will begin shooting next year in Bulgaria with Stallone taking on directing duties again. Stallone is about to being writing the sixth film and will more than likely direct.

There is no solid plot for either film except for the rumors of number five having John Rambo back in America and Stallone using an unused 'Rambo' script which involved Rambo's daughter being kidnapped by a cult.

Max Payne Producer Talks Duke Nukem Movie

If it ain't movies based on cartoons and comic books it's movies based on video games and one of the biggest games of the 90s was Duke Nukem. So where is his movie? Well Robert Faye, producer of the upcoming Max Payne, updates the status of a Duke Nukem movie.

“I'm working diligently at making a Duke Nukem movie scenario that will live up to the character and its import in the videogame world,” Faye told Kotaku. “As is the case with all of my game adaptations, I'd rather not make the movie than make a poor adaptation.”

“With the two new games coming out based on Duke Nukem, I'm working at establishing a Duke film scenario that will compel a studio to finance a feature version,” said Faye. “Certainly, there's a large audience that knows and loves this character.”

“More than ever before, I feel that the feature adaptation of Duke Nukem will come to together nicely,”

Kevin Smith Working On Superhero Movie To Star Seth Rogen

How does a totally original superhero movie created by Kevin Smith and starring Seth Rogen sound? Well that is what Smith wants to do for his next film after his horror flick Red State is done.

"First, I'm going to do a 180 turn and do a horror movie called Red State," Smith told Sci Fi Wire. "It's going to be a total horror-political-psychological movie without a funny line in it. Then I'm going to do the science fiction superhero movie. It's going to be an original superhero that I've created. It's stewing right now. I want to do it, though, and, God willing, it will star Seth Rogen."

I think it's awesome to have superhero films that are totally original with no comparison to a comic book and can create it's own mythos within the film and Kevin Smith knows how to tell a great superhero tale. So do you guys want to see an original superhero movie by Kevin Smith?

Gatchaman Trailer Clip! Plus New Images

The official site for Gatchaman has revealed some trailer images and a 10 second movie clip which is the last shot of the official Gatchaman trailer! The original Gatchaman story revolves around five young superhero ninjas engaged by the International Science Organization to oppose a group of technologically advanced villains, known as Galactor, from trying to take control of the Earth's natural resources. To do so, the ninjas battle various giant monsters deployed by Galactor to capture rare resources. The film is set for release in 2009.

Harold Ramis Updates Ghostbusters 3

There is no doubt that the biggest story last week was that Columbia Pictures was officially bringing Ghostbusters back for a third installment. But the question remained whether Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson would actually come back for Ghostbusters 3 and what new blood would be involved? Well maybe Harold Ramis himself can shed some light on things.

Harold Ramis emailed Chicago Tribune’s Mark Caro about the status of Ghostbusters 3:

"yes, columbia is developing a script for GB3 with my year one writing partners, gene stupnitsky and lee eisenberg. judd apatow is co-producing year one and has made several other films for sony, so of course the studio is hoping to tap into some of the same acting talent. aykroyd, ivan reitman and i are consulting at this point, and according to dan, bill murray is willing to be involved on some level. he did record his dialogue for the new ghostbusters video game, as did danny and i, and ernie hudson. the concept is that the old ghostbusters would appear in the film in some mentor capacity. not much else to say at this point. everyone is confident a decent script can be written and i guess we'll take it from there. best, harold"

So that's pretty damn cool, an email from Ramis giving a nice update - Who do you think should be the new Ghostbusters? Do you think Bill Murray will come back? Does this sound like a good idea for a third Ghostbusters film?

The Wrestler Wins The Golden Lion in Venice!

Darren Aronofksy's The Wrestler has taken out the top prize, The Golden Lion, at this years Venice Film Festival. Aronofksy is an amazing filmmaker in my eyes and Mickey Rourke, who plays pro-wrestler Randy (the Ram) Robinson trying to make a come back, is just one of those actors that I love to see on the screen.


Back in 2006, Darren Aronofsky's The Fountain premiered in Venice and bombed big time, and I think that it's great that Mickey Rourke touched on it this year. "Darren Aronofsky came here a couple of years ago and fell on his ass," Variety reports Rourke saying in the Lido's packed Sala Grande theatre. "I am glad he had the balls to come back,” Rourke added.

Spike Lee Working on Inside Man 2

Inside Man was an okay thriller - does it need a sequel? Well Spike Lee and Universal thinks it does as they are moving forward with a sequel to the 2006 film...ah I mean joint.

Terry George (Hotel Rwanda) in negotiations to write the screenplay for Inside Man 2 (I'm sure the title will change) and Spike Lee will be again directing the film, THR reports. The film is set to pick up on the characters and dynamic but not the storyline of the original and will continue the relationship between the two main characters, played by Denzel Washington and Clive Owen, but in a new high-tension situation. Lee has said Washington and Owen are interested in coming back but have not signed on as yet.

So does anyone think that Inside Man 2 is a good idea?

Nicolas Cage Talks Crap...I Mean Bad Lieutenant Remake

When I first heard that Abel Ferrara's Bad Lieutenant was being remade, it was a triple WTF moment - Hey they're remaking Bad Lieutenant - WTF? Nicolas Cage is going to star - double WTF? with cheese. And Werner Herzog is directing it - Triple WTF??? Anyway read on as Nicolas Cage gives the lowdown on Bad Lieutenant: Port of New Orleans, which sounds like a watered down version of the original.


First of all Nicolas Cage, like Werner Herzog, is claiming that this is not a remake. “It’s a new version of ‘Bad Lieutenant’ in a whole new place. [Herzog] connects it to Bond - like there was more than one Bond,” Cage told MTV. “[I play] a whole new character. He’s nothing like Harvey [Keitel’s] character.”

“[The original] movie was a result of Judeo-Christian programming,” Cage said of where the two will most diverge. “This one is much more existential.”

And will Cage nude up Keitel style? “That remains to be seen,” Cage said, laughing heartily, refusing to divulge whether or not he would appear nude on-screen.

I guess the obvious question is that if this is not a remake and Cage's character is totally different from the original then why the fuck would you call it Bad Lieutenant? And why would Herzog even touch this?

Germany Hates Inglorious Bastards Already

Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards is already causing controversy in Germany due to a leaked script which includes Americans bashing, scalping, shooting and strangling German soldiers. Tobias Kneibe, film editor of the Suddeutsche Zeitung, expects Inglorious Bastards to be ripped apart upon its release.


Even though Kneibe loved the script he expects that it will be hated with a passion by local critics.

"All the German historians and critics who were left gasping for breath by Tom Cruise and his worthy attempts will be so shocked by 'Inglorious Bastards' that they will savage it on the spot," Kniebe wrote in his article, THR reports. "The collision between Tarantino-style pop culture with the themes of the Holocaust and Jewish revenge (the 'Bastards' of the film are Jewish-American Nazi hunters) is unprecedented in Germany and its results are completely unpredictable."

I'm sure Tarantino is fully aware of the type of controversy this film will attract and he will love every freakin' minute of it.

Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire Back For Spider-Man 4! and 5?

If Spider-Man 3 was as great as Spider-Man 2 then I probably would be jumping for joy right about now. But sequels can always redeem a series and it looks like we won't just be getting a fourth film but a fifth film also, both shot back to back. And yes, Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire will return!

Sony have signed both Raimi and Maguire for Spider-Man 4, Deadline Hollywood Daily reports. Sony also want Spider-Man 4 and Spider-Man 5 shot at the same time using James Vanderbilt's script that is said to span two films.

The character of Mary Jane is said to be included in both films but Kirsten Dunst is yet to be signed on. As for the villian in Spider-Man 4, the site says that once we find out who the villain is we'll know who is playing it. Sounds like we will finally be seeing The Lizard aka Dr. Curt Connors (Dylan Baker).

And as for that Venom Spin-off the site also reports that Topher Grace, who played the character in Spider-Man 3, is still the front-runner because "the likeable actor could be a sympathetic evildoer" Is that what we want? Venom as a sympathetic evildoer? Come on!

So does a Spider-Man 4 and a Spider-Man 5 get you all excited? Or are you in who cares mode?

Nicolas Cage Talks Ghost Rider 2

Why couldn't they just reboot this Hulk style? Because too many people paid to see the first damn movie - Anyway read on as Nicolas Cage gives the update on the sequel we've all been waiting for.

"Yes, actually, had a nice meeting with the studio about 3-months ago, and we talked about going international with that character. Taking him into Europe, having him go on a motorcycle tour through Europe, and he's connected with the church, if you can believe that. So it sort of has elements to it that are very much in the zeitgeist, with "The Da Vinci Code" and things like that." Cage told Comingsoon.

The Da Vinci Code? Really? Does anyone really want to see this?

It's Official - Ghostbusters 3 Has Writers!

I always thought we would see a Ghostbusters remake or a 'reboot' and it still might end up being one you never know but for now it is Ghostbusters 3! That's right it's really, really official and Columbia Pictures have called up the producers of "The Office" to write a script that will bring back the original Ghostbusters!


"The Office" co-exec producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky are set to write a script for a third Ghostbusters film which will bring back the original cast of Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson, Variety reports.

No deals will be made with the original cast until the script is complete, but THR is also reporting that Ivan Reitman, and cast are aware of the project and are involved in its development. They also claim that the original cast members might be involved, but the focus will be on a new cast of Ghostbusters.

I would much rather a Ghostbusters 3 focusing on the original gang but I'm sure that a new crew featuring people like the Apatow crowd would be more appealing to the studio. What do you guys think?

Test Your Might! A Third Mortal Kombat Film!

I love the shit out of Mortal Kombat - and the films, okay maybe not Annihilation, but could a new film redeem it? Yes / No - who cares, give me a straight to DVD Mortal Kombat film I don't mind just give it to me. Read on as Christopher 'mink' Morrison, director of the Steven Seagal epic Into the Sun, explains where this new Mortal Kombat film is at.

“Mortal Kombat is still in the money stage", mink told Moviehole. "As I have said in the past inquires independent films need to be financed before you start making money based creative decisions and as you may have noticed the economy in general is a little sluggish at the moment especially in Hollywood. Indy investors are more cautious at this particular time then recently so it takes longer than ever. MK more than likely will be an Indy film. The film's projected budget will be between 50& 60 mill so it is a bit more tricky than just running down to the ATM or writing a cashiers check (maybe one of those Jumbo checks like Publisher Clearing House winners). Currently Threshold is working out the financing through a studio and or equity situation. This will take as long as needs to take. I know the frustration this causes the awesome MK fans but that's the fact Jack....”

“In regards to the casting, the director traditionally has a say in any ideas and suggests who she or he feels is best. But again in this situation MK3 is a work for hire under Threshold (who are the creatives on most of the non MK game products) and they have final say along with Midway as far as the cast goes. So they will make that call. In regards to the past cast they and myself have met with a lot of the previous cast and they are all in the mix but as the money must come first so casting is a still a few steps away. So for now efforts are best spent on the non money creative for someone like myself in regards to visual style, locations, photography style and concept art ideas. So while we wait for the green light as they say I am prepping and developing my movie 13 Chambers (based on a comic book written by mink) with Lawrence Bender Productions.”

Mark Millar Talks Wanted 2

Wanted, that film with curving bullets which is loosley based on Mark Millar and JG Jones’ comic, is reaching a worldwide box office of $260 million so it's time to talk Wanted 2. Read on to see how Mark Millar will be involved in the sequel and why he is not doing a comic book follow up.

“At the premiere, everybody knew that it was going to make a lot of money, and we were all buzzing,” Millar told Newsarama. “On the way out, Mark Platt, the main producer put his arms around me and JG and said, ‘Okay, so what’s the plan for Wanted 2?’ I looked at him and said, ‘There is no plan,’ and he said to me, ‘Okay, well, have something for us next week.’”

So what plans does Mark Millar have? “What I will be doing is providing them with a very small amount of stuff for a story, and that will be used as a basic story that they can build from. It will be a small outline that can possibly be picked apart and not used – but it will be something exclusively for the second film, and no one will ever really see it.”

“It will be some of the stuff that we didn’t utilize from the first book for the movie – like chapters three and four – there will be some stuff from that, so in the loosest sense it will be based on the book, but only very little,” Millar said. “The nice thing about owning it and creator-owned properties is that JG and I will still be producers on the thing, and will still obviously get paid for the rights.”

Millar also reveals that as soon as the film opened to $55 million on its first weekend Wanted 2 and 3 were greenlit with James McAvoy signing on for another two movies.

Although fans of the comic book mini won't be seeing more Wanted in that form. “I’ve got this reputation of being a total whore, and even when I’m adamant about something like this, people don’t believe me, but there is nothing else coming from Wanted,” Millar said. “That six issues was the end. I love doing new stuff anyway – I get bored so quickly.”

There you go, another case of money = sequels (probably the only case these days). I wouldn't mind more big action set pieces in the sequel but I hated McAvoy's character and the plot was garbage. Anway, do you want more Wanted?

Kruger, Waltz & Rust Join Inglorious Bastards

More casting news for Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Bastards with Diane Kruger, Christoph Waltz and Paul Rust joining the film. They join Brad Pitt, Eli Roth, Mike Myers, Michael Fassbender, B.J. Novak and Samm Levine.

Kruger will play German actress Bridget Von Hammersmark, who figures prominently in a plot to sabotage the Nazis. Waltz has landed the role of Col. Hans Landa a.k.a The “Jew Hunter”, Variety reports. It's unknown at this time who Rust will play.

Production is set to begin October 13th in Germany with the film set to premiere at Cannes Film Festival in 2009.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine Trailer Coming to DVD?

Could Fox be set to debut the official trailer for X-Men Origins: Wolverine on DVD? This seems highly unlikely but Superhero Flix have noted that the Australian Classification Board have approved a 2 minute "Wolverine" video for an upcoming DVD release. I would say that this would be a "sneek peak" featurette to be included to try and sell an upcoming X-Men Trilogy DVD re-release of some sorts. Or it is the trailer but I'm sure it will be attached to a film before that DVDs release.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine centers its story on the epically violent and romantic past of Logan and his involvement with Weapon X program. Directed by Gavin Hood, the film stars Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber and Ryan Reynolds. X-Men Origins: Wolverine is set for release May 1, 2009.

Plans For Red Sonja Sequel?

Ever since I saw the two posters for Red Sonja with Rose McGowan as the 'She-Devil with a Sword' I have been very excited for the film (in more ways than one). Well director Douglas Aarniokoski must be equally excited as he is already dropping hints for a Red Sonja sequel!

MTV caught up with Aarniokoski and asked him if there were any plans for a sequel or any other film based on the characters in the same universe. “I mean, if we start to talk about that, I start to give away the third act,” he said. “Yes, let’s just say yes. It’s definitely got franchise written all over it.”

He was also asked about the chance of seeing Conan or Thulsa Doom making an appearance in the films, he responded with “You know, again, I’d love to tell you but I can’t divulge that. It’s a little bit under wraps right now.”

So there you go, want to see a sequel to a film that you haven't even seen yet? Of course you do. Just look at the posters!

New Transporter 3 Poster (US Version)

If a poster has Jason Statham jumping through the air with two guns ready to rock you damn well know it's a Transporter poster. Check out the new US version of the Transporter 3 poster inside! You can also check out the international poster here. The film is directed by Olivier Megaton from a script written by Luc Besson. Transporter 3 continues the story of Frank Martin (Jason Statham), a professional "transporter" who has relocated to Paris to continue his low-key business of delivering packages without questions. The film is set to kick you in the face on November 26, 2008.

Max Makowski To Direct Voltron!

You know talking about a Voltron movie gets me pretty damn excited (no, not in that way but I'm sure there will be something going on in the pants once I see a trailer) and here is some big news - Voltron will be directed by Max Makowski! Who? That was my first reaction.

Latino Review got the scoop that Makowski would be helming the film. Who? Oh you're still asking that aren't you well his credits include The Pigeon Egg Strategy and One Last Dance (both premiered at Sundance) and he will also be bringing Kung Fu (based on the TV show) to the big screen. Oh and he also worked on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.

I don't know what to expect and that could be a good thing. If it was someone like Michael Bay at the helm we would all know how things would go down. So is anybody familiar with Makowski's work? Do you think this is a good choice? Is there any other director you would rather see helming Voltron?

Body Of Lies Poster

Looking forward to Body Of Lies? Of course you are but in the mean time check out the first official poster for the upcoming Ridley Scott film. Body Of Lies is based on Washington Post columnist David Ignatius' 2007 novel about a CIA operative, Roger Ferris (Leonardo DiCaprio), who uncovers a lead on a major terrorist leader suspected to be operating out of Jordan. When Ferris devises a plan to infiltrate his network, he must first win the backing of cunning CIA veteran Ed Hoffman (Russell Crowe). The film is set for release on October 10.

Full Max Payne Trailer

The full extended trailer for Max Payne has hit the internet and you can check it out inside. Coming together to solve a series of murders in New York City are a DEA agent (Mark Wahlberg) whose family was slain as part of a conspiracy and an assassin (Mila Kunis) out to avenge her sister's death. The duo will be hunted by the police, the mob, and a ruthless corporation. The film is set for release on October 17.
