Toy Story 3 Teaser Trailer

How can you not be excited about seeing this lot again, check out this nice little teaser trailer for Pixar's Toy Story 3. The third chapter of the Toy Story trilogy tells the story of Sheriff Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the others of the Toystory cast, when their now teenage owner, Andy, leaves for college, leaving our heroes at a day-care center. The film is set for release on June 18, 2010.

Writer Ashley Miller Talks Thor. Dirty and Bloody.

The three writers behind the screenplay for the upcoming Marvel film THOR are Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend), Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (both writers for Andromeda and Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles). Miller recently spoke with cinefools about her take on the big guy with the hammer and yes, she is actually a fan of the comics!

THOR is a comic book film in that it's based on the Marvel conception of the character as super-hero." Ashley Miller told cinefools. "But there are definitely some big fantasy elements working behind that. He is the God of Thunder, after all. It's hard to approach the character without both of those things informing the work."

"Thor's powers are godly, yes. And his zip code is a little different. But at the end of the day, he's a man. In the comics, Odin sends him to Earth because he's not perfect. He's brash, arrogant. Even over-confident. We all know that guy -- some of us have even been that guy. Stan Lee's genius was to give Thor-as-hero an emotional throughline we could all relate to, and knock him down a couple of pegs. So on that level, your question answers itself. The challenge is to dramatize that and make the audience see what the fans have known and believed about the character all along. As for realism, i have to ask you back: what does that mean? If the standard is, does he throw his back out if he hurls the hammer a little too hard... probably not. He's a god. He's incredibly strong. He can fly. He tosses lightning bolts. There's nothing realistic about any of that. But he also bleeds. He struggles. Life kicks him where it hurts the most. Dramatically speaking, the powers and Asgard are gravy. The meat -- and what makes it a Marvel movie -- is the character."

Miller also wants Thor a little dirty and bloody. "Grit. Not in the sense that you'd want to see a generic "dark" take on Thor, but in the sense that you want to feel Thor's rage when he rages. You want to see him fight like hell, and take as much he dishes out -- maybe more. You want to have a visceral reaction to the guy, and what happens to him. You don't want his adventures to be clean and antiseptic. You want to see the dirt, and grime and blood. You want to feel every bone crunching moment of every fight. And when he unleashes the storm, you want to feel like you're seeing the power of a GOD at work.
The best example I can give you is the end of Ultimates 2. When Thor shows up and kicks ass, he shows up and kicks ass. He isn't screwing around. There's a certain brutal, cock-eyed realism to Thor in that moment (and through that book in general) that I really resonate to and want to expand on."

When asked if Miller was a fan of Thor she replied "Would you like me to pull my Simonson run out of its bags and boards? Zack had to take me down with an elephant tranq to stop me from throwing in a scene between Thor and a frog."

The brutal warrior angle for Thor sounds very interesting and although he has never been in my top ten comic book characters there is an epic and amazing film to be made out of the character and concepts of Thor, and I honestly can't wait.

Dolph Lundgren Talks The Expendables and Universal Soldiers: The Next Generation

Dolph Lundgren has been a busy action hero of late, with his latest action flick Direct Contact hitting shelves on DVD and Blu-ray on June 2 and Command Performance, which Lundgren directed, coming out later this year (which looks like a fun, die hard at a rock concert, action flick) plus he has the action epic The Expendables being helmed by Sylvester Stallone and the interesting Universal Soldier sequel, titled Universal Soldiers: The Next Generation. Check out what The Dolph had to say.

In a recent interview Lundgren told JoBlo how The Expendables came to be "Well, Stallone wanted to do a kind of DIRTY DOZEN type of picture with a bunch of action guys. So he came up with the idea about this group of mercenaries, they all have problems of various sorts. And Stallone is the leader who put it together. You know, I was just asked by him and I read the script and he has this one character in it that has changed quite a bit in the last six months. But he’s an interesting guy. He’s a bit of a fuck up and he’s got a lot of problems but he’s a good friend of Sly. And it is kind of like a family with its problems, and I’m like the outcast to some extent and it changes back and forth. I loved the script and you know, he started hiring a lot of famous people and I’m pleased to be a part of it."

"The first scene we did in the film was actually with Stallone where I get fired and I’m really upset… It was a great moment. I can feel, there is this certain image between Stallone and I anyway, there is a chemistry, an on-screen chemistry that was there originally twenty years ago. And it is still there. So it was kind of cool and you could feel the crew was like… you know, you have to push him and they’d gasp and that sort of thing [Laughing]. It was cool. Yeah, it was very nice and it is one of my favorite scenes."

"You know what I like about it is there was a real feeling of real people and it’s not superheroes and there is nobody flying though buildings. Nobody is out to save the world. You know, it’s quite down to earth. Just some guys hanging out, trying to help some people out and they all have their problems. You know, there is substance abuse, you know, other things with their families and I think that its fresh. Stallone writes those things very, very well. Even with his firsts, you know, ROCKY and F.I.S.T. and those type of movies. I think THE EXPENDABLES is one of his better scripts. It’s funny and it’s touching and it’s going to be cool. That’s what I think people are going to like about it, that its about real people."

The Dolph also confirms that his role in Universal Soldiers: The Next Generation will only be a cameo (insert sad face here) "Yeah, I’m doing a cameo. I sort of appear in the movie at a sort of seminal moment. And you know, John Hyams is directing this and his father, Peter Hyams is a director. His son is really good too, he wrote a nice little role, kind of a little cameo. It was fun to work with Jean-Claude Van Damme again, also another bizarre experience. It was slightly different than the first film, but still, seventeen years later, it was like, ‘Holy shit, it’s been that long!’ [Laughing]."

So great we get another Van Damme Universal Soldier flick, yes Jean-Claude Universal Soldier: The Return sucked! At least he is positive about The Expendables which is going to be awesome. Keep kickin' ass Dolph.

The Final Destination Poster

The first official poster for the fourth Final Destination film (oddly) titled The Final Destination has been unleashed. It is strange that there is no mention of the fact that the film is in 3D on this poster as it will more than likely be its biggest draw card to the general public. THE Final Destination opens August 28th, 2009.

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans Trailer

When Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans was announced I was speechless. Being a fan of Werner Herzog and of Abel Ferrara and his 1992 film Bad Lieutenant this made no sense to me. Now here's the trailer, and I like the trailer - it feels like a straight-to-DVD late 90s cult film. I still don't understand Herzog’s motives in doing a remake of Bad Lieutenant or why it has that stupid title but maybe we shouldn’t care too much and have a little fun with Herzog and Cage, maybe? Shoot him again, his souls still dancing.

So what did you think?

Tony Scott Confirms ALIEN PREQUEL

Recent word of an Alien remake or reboot on the horizon really didn't excite me (remake news rarely does) but now there is confirmation that the film will actually be a prequel to Ridley Scott's 1979 masterpiece. The Alien prequel will be directed by Carl Rinsch, a very talented commercial/music video director and part of Ridley and Tony's Scott Free Productions. See what else Tony Scott has to say about the prequel to his brothers film.

While at a press junket for The Taking of Pelham 123 Collider asked Tony Scott the truth behind the Alien reboot/prequel rumors.

Collider: 20th Century Fox is talking about remaking or redoing the original Alien. What’s going on with that?
Tony Scott: Yes, Carl Rinsch is going to do the prequel to Alien. He’s one of our directors at our company.
Collider: I’m going to be blunt about this. Fox has not been doing a great job recently with their movies. They haven’t been an artist friendly studio. Are you guys going to have some creative control and make this a kick-ass film?
Tony: Yes! But Fox is our home. They finace our production company.
Collider: And I’m very happy that you guys have the financing. But a lot of the films they’ve been doing at the studio level, they’ve been nickel and diming and not giving fandom what they want. So I guess my question for you is…are you a little nervous about reengaging the franchise or are you excited.
Tony: I’m excited cause Ridley created the original and Carl Rinsch is one of the family.
Collider: When do you envision this film getting in front of cameras?
Tony: Hopefully the end of the year.
Collider: Will it be a summer of 2011 movie?
Tony: Honestly, I don’t know.

Obviously I would love to see an Alien 5 but in a world where prequels and reboots reign supreme, I'm glad we are getting a prequel.
