Yep, it's been confirmed - Darren Aronofsky will be directing the Robocop reboot, remake or sequel (what ever it is that is yet to be confirmed) which will be set for a 2010 release. Rumours have been flying around the web about this for quite awhile but MGM have confirmed it.MGM's Chairman Mary Parent said "Darren is undeniably one of the most talented, original and visceral filmmakers, and David is one of the greatest writers in Hollywood. All of us at MGM couldn't be more excited." Producers Brad Fischer and David Thwaites added "With a filmmaker of Darren Aronofsky's vision and imagination and a writer of David Self's caliber, we are poised to bring to the screen an entertaining and provocative film, which will now be under the creative guidance of two of the best storytellers working in our industry today."
Mmm. I love Darren Aronofsky's films but I never saw him directing something like this, but I hope he does bring a dark edge to the film and it is not just a dumb summer action film. The original films themes are still very relevant today so apart from making "cooler" looking robots this, like most remakes, seems rather pointless.
